For reasons that escape me now, I had deprived medium cavalry of the ability to shoot and move, it has been restored.
Light troops were intended to be able to self order a single move. That somehow got deleted. The idea is primarily that it will allow light infantry and skirmishers to move and fight effectively in broken and difficult terrain but also that fiddling with skirmishers shouldn't overly distract a general from the real fight. They still need orders to rally or double move.
and it was intended that a 1" fallback from melee could be followed up, that was the whole point.
The are a few other minor things but the updated version is now loaded.
.
I will down load them now - thanks for the tweaks and inspiration...

ReplyDeletestupid question but do I use the melee rules etc from the non element version of the rules? Sorrry if I am missing the obvious...
Alan
Alan, first off, thanks for the interest, comments and compliments. Sorry to be so slow responding.
ReplyDeleteThe rules are intended to be generic and basic but complete and self contained. They do allow for/encourage tweaking for specific historical campaigns. Whether or not I get around to adding such scenario/army/campaign specific rules depends on how much I feel the lack once I get playing. I don't see myself adding all of the possible appendices for all possible armies, at least not unless people start demanding them.
Rule 13 should have all the melee information. Mind you when I looked at this morning, I kept thinking, something must be missing, there just aren't enough modifiers but between the effect of unit quality and the extra dice some troop types get in some situations, it should work.
Of course, I haven't actually had them on the table yet! Hopefully tonight or tomorrow.
If you do get a chance to try them, I hope you'll report back. Doesn't have to be positive.
cheers!

ReplyDeleteIn my copy I downloaded today rule 13 is missing- or am I still being daft? I am going to try this week with a AD69 Roman Civil War scenario...
